Exciting to see three flor-aged wines entered into this class! Oldest wine is a little turbid, fruit tiring a little on the nose but with the salivating acidity, roasted almond character expected of this style, some soy/vegemite developed notes. Moderate persistence. Wine 2 is deeper in colour with shiny aromatic lift, roasted hazelnut butter. Palate is wonderful, intense and dense but still refreshing, a powerful flor-aged style with the curry leaf, celery leaf, almond and salt of flor, the qui

Wines with a satisfyingly complete package from aroma through intensity and spectrum, palate texture and breadth and length. Same attractive attibutes in all, with intensity. Distinction.

Butterscotch and oxidative development in 2020 contrasts with the nutty oxidation married to good freshness in 2013 and especially compared to 2011's lifted freshness remaining with lovely development of savoury flavours on the palate. pretty cool bracket, interesting similarities and differences, flor the most dominant similarity. Quality varies a little but the 2013 is an absolute cracker!!

Vintages - 2011, 2013, 2020
Looking to the great Vin Jaune wines of the Jura region in France for inspiration these wines were whole bunched and pressed to old French barriques before natural fermentation and malolactic conversion. Following ferment the barrels were moved to a well ventilated shed (away from the winery proper) where conditions were perfect for the gradual growth of the flor yeast on the surface of the increasingly ullaged barrels. Amazingly these wines were not been topped for its entire 4 year ageing period, relying on the protective properties of the yeast voile to avoid excessive oxidation.
